MEDIA LITERACY
Day 1 - BLAST FROM THE PAST
Sept. 16th
Toys are vital tools that help foster the mental, physical, emotional and social development of boys and girls. Toys are basic instruments for the development of children’s fantasy, thoughts and creativity, and undoubtedly, they are a child's best friend throughout. Because of this, certain toys trigger powerful memories and feelings within long past the years that we use them.
Today I shared with the students three toys that bring back fond memories of my early childhood. Some of these memories are pleasing because of the fun I had playing with the toy, while others were pleasing due to the status I got from my peers because I owned that toy. The commercials made the toys seem so cool, and if you owned them, you were cool. The following clips review the toys I shared with the students. See if any of these toys trigger memories for you.

The following blog provides other people's (of a similar age to me) and their experiences with these and other toys of that time period: http://bit.ly/p1H2yn (Caution: Some of the language on the blog is inappropriate.)
